The 2015 Black Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Super Heavy Weight World Champion, Eddie was also ranked by ibjjfrankings.com as the number 1 No-Gi Super Heavy Weight Master in the World in 2015. A Christian man, married to Monique Ricardo, whom is also a Black Belt and 2 times World Champion, father of two little future Bjj Champions Maxwell and Michael. Born in the Republic of Brazil, Eddie started his martial art journey as a 4-year-old child. Karate was the first discipline practiced by Eddie. Growing up in Brazil forced Eddie to protect himself innumerous times growing the importance in self-defense in his personal life. Always average in different sports, Eddie enjoyed, soccer, volleyball, basketball and tennis. But martial always kept Eddie’s attention because he felt that not only it was a fun exercise but was also very practical and he felt it made him feel confident, not only in a confrontation but also at school, church, and social events and in family events. Eddie along with his brother Eder, trained Karate, Judo, Wrestling, Capoeira but their passion was in the most complete martial art in the world. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In Brazilian jiu-jitsu Eddie and Eder (his brother) noticed that in the end of every class they would have to go against the other students to see who knew more technique. With a very practical and straightforward approach, Eddie noticed that in BJJ there is nowhere to hide and there is no lies or waste of time. Around the age of 12 years old age Eddie moved to America, and due to the popularity of the UFC, BJJ gyms was opening up all over. Training with for 10 years with Carlos Machado, and winning many tournaments, Eddie Was awarded the BJJ Black Belt Rank in 1997. Bjj was not just martial arts for Eddie. The purpose and goals changed thru out the years. Eddie learned that Bjj had as its main object to increase people’s quality of life, self-confidence and build champions mentalities vs. just becoming able to dominate someone physically.
