The Story

๐Ÿ“– Building Excellence

Monique Ricardo Carvalho's story is not the story of a champion who succeeded despite family.

It is the story of a woman who embraced motherhood, marriage, family, coaching, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while continuing to pursue excellence.

Monique proved that excellence and family do not have to compete with one another. Through discipline, faith, sacrifice, balance, and consistency, she built both.

She built herself. She built a family. She helped build Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She helped build future champions. And throughout that journey, she built one of the most accomplished competitive careers in women's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Monique is an 11-time IBJJF World Champion whose competitive success spans purple belt, brown belt, and black belt levels.

She became a World No-Gi Champion as a purple belt. She became a World No-Gi Champion as a brown belt. Then she continued winning World No-Gi titles as a black belt.

Very few athletes become World Champions at purple belt, brown belt, and black belt. Even fewer do it repeatedly over the course of a decade.

Fitness Chapter

๐Ÿ’ช Professional Fitness to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Before becoming one of the most accomplished female competitors in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Monique built an impressive career in professional fitness.

She earned IFBB Professional Bikini status in 2009, competed at the highest levels of professional fitness, qualified for and competed in the Bikini Olympia, and competed in the Arnold Classic.

During that chapter, Monique appeared in multiple national fitness magazines, appeared on magazine covers and fitness features, and was recognized as one of the top fitness athletes of her era.

Fitness taught Monique discipline, preparation, and confidence. But Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gave her something deeper. It challenged her mind, tested her character, and became a lifelong passion that would shape the rest of her journey.

The discipline she built in fitness became part of her foundation, but Jiu-Jitsu became the place where she continued to grow as an athlete, teacher, mother, mentor, and champion.

Balance

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Competition, Family, and Faith

Many of Monique's greatest accomplishments came while raising children, helping lead Cobra BJJ, coaching students, supporting her family, and balancing everyday life.

Her story is not built on separating family from excellence. It is built on learning how to carry responsibility with grace, discipline, sacrifice, and consistency.

Monique continued to train, teach, compete, and show up while also building a home and helping shape the culture of Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

She built herself through discipline.

She built her family through love and consistency.

She built champions by teaching others how to believe in the process.

That balance is one of the strongest parts of her legacy.

Championship Record

๐Ÿ† Black Belt Championships

Many athletes dedicate a season of life entirely to competition.

Monique's journey looked different.

While raising three children, helping build Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, coaching students, supporting her family, and managing the responsibilities of everyday life, she continued competing against some of the best female athletes in the world.

Through discipline, consistency, sacrifice, and faith, Monique built one of the most accomplished competitive rรฉsumรฉs in women's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

During this competitive stretch, Monique earned 62 IBJJF medals โ€” including 49 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze โ€” competing across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

The IBJJF, International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, is widely recognized as the largest and most prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization in the world. These results represent only Monique's IBJJF accomplishments and do not include medals, championships, and victories earned in other major organizations throughout her career.

Note: These are Monique's black belt IBJJF accomplishments. They do not include her earlier World Championship titles earned as a purple belt and brown belt, nor do they include her achievements in other organizations.

The Academy

๐Ÿ Helping Build Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not only where Monique teaches. It is one of the places where her values, discipline, and example have shaped students for years.

Alongside Eddie Ricardo and the Cobra team, Monique has helped build an academy known for serious training, family culture, kids development, adult fundamentals, competition preparation, and high standards.

Her influence reaches beyond medals. Students see a coach who has lived the process: preparation, pressure, parenting, leadership, sacrifice, and consistency.

Through coaching, Monique helps students understand that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not just about winning tournaments. It is about building confidence, discipline, technical skill, emotional control, and character.

Philosophy

๐Ÿ™ Discipline, Faith, Balance, and Consistency

Monique's philosophy is built on the belief that excellence is created through daily choices.

Great athletes are not built only on tournament day. Great families are not built only in easy seasons. Great students are not built from one class. Everything meaningful is built through repetition, humility, discipline, faith, and consistency.

โ–ธTrain with purpose.

โ–ธPrepare with discipline.

โ–ธLead by example.

โ–ธRespect the process.

โ–ธBalance ambition with responsibility.

โ–ธBuild yourself while helping others build.

Her coaching reflects the same standard she used to build her career: clear instruction, high expectations, patience, care, and belief in steady progress.

Legacy

๐ŸŒŸ A Legacy Built in More Than One Arena

Monique Ricardo Carvalho's legacy is not limited to one medal count, one tournament, or one chapter of life.

It includes the discipline she built in fitness, the courage she showed in competition, the family she helped build, the students she continues to coach, and the example she gives to women, parents, athletes, and young competitors.

โ–ธShe built herself.

โ–ธShe built a family.

โ–ธShe helped build Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

โ–ธShe helped build future champions.

โ–ธShe built an elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu career without abandoning the rest of her life.

That is the real story of Monique Ricardo Carvalho.
